The Walnut Bend ISD held a regular board of trustees meeting on July 23, 2013. The board of trustees approved a proposed tax rate of $1.04 per $100 of property value be published in the local newspaper for the 2013 – 2014 budget. The public hearing for the tax rate and budget is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. on August 13, 2013 in the Walnut Bend ISD library. Mr. Davenport, superintendent, reviewed the preliminary budget with the board of trustees. The preliminary budget reported for the 2013-14 school year was $742,001. Mr. Davenport reported that the district received the certified property tax on Monday, July 22 and expects that the final budget will differ slightly because of a small difference between the preliminary and certified property tax values.
The minutes from the June 11, 2011 meeting were approved, as well as the bills for the month of June. The board of trustees approved the TASB Update 97 to local board policy and approved an annual resolution describing hazardous bus routes. The student handbook, code of conduct and employee handbooks were all approved for the 2013-14 school year. The board of trustees approved a budget amendment to cover instructional costs for the remainder of the 2013 fiscal year. Paraprofessional and teacher salary schedules were adopted, as well as giving 3% raises to employees who do not fall under a salary schedule. Extra duty stipends were approved and the superintendent’s contract was extended for another year. Transfer students were approved, giving a projective enrollment of 78 students for the beginning of the school year.
Mr. Davenport reported that Mr. White had resigned from Walnut Bend ISD earlier in July. There is currently an open teaching position for a second/third grade teacher. A teacher will be recommended for employment during the August board meeting. Teaching assignments and extra duties for the 2013-14 school year were reviewed.
During the superintendent report, Mr. Davenport stated that the classroom had been finished painting and all carpets had been cleaned. The district has received the preliminary FIRST Report and received the maximum score possible according to preliminary results.
